“Off The Cuff” Show in Honolulu, HI!

As you’re walking around the Ward area in Honolulu you see lots of warehouses and shops. You’d never guess hidden in one of these warehouses is a beautiful gallery housing some incredible artwork!

Tuesday October 30, 2012 was the opening of the “Off the Cuff” show at the Fine Art Associates in Honolulu, HI! I had the pleasure of being one of fifteen artists selected to show their wearable sculptural jewelry.  As I walked to the opening of the show I noticed a rainbow had formed right over the warehouse that the Fine Art Associates is located in, even mother nature wanted to get in on the art action.

As I walked into the Fine Art Associates I felt like I was transported to someplace completely different from the warehouses that I was just walking by. The inside was glistening with gallery lights and beautifully displayed art works. There were even pieces hanging from the ceiling!

Thirteen of my pieces were elegantly displayed for everyone to enjoy. The whole night was so much fun! I met a lot of really great people and had the pleasure of sharing how I create each of my pieces with many of them!

See that blue dot?! It mean’s it’s sold!

About half of my pieces sold that night! It was said that my pieces were “Flying out the door!” And I was told that someone bought a piece that another women wanted. I’m so excited that people are loving the pieces that I am creating, it really makes me feel like this is what I’m meant to be doing. The best part of the whole night for me was that I was able to meet each person that purchased one of my works. I love being able to meet the people who will be enjoying my pieces.

Here’s pictures of a few of the pieces that sold that night!

I did not get as many photographs of other artists pieces as I would have liked to, but here are the ones I was able to capture that night!

Maika’i Tubbs uses buttons and recycled plastic price tags to make some very intricate and unique rings and necklaces!

I had the pleasure of asking Marla Momi Musick a little about her pieces. She said that she takes traditional Hawaiian motifs and uses them in a modern way to create her designs. The way she combines the two is truly stunning.

A fellow art alumnus who recently graduated from the University of Hawaii came to the opening and called me an “inspiration”. It is probably one of the greatest compliments that I’ve ever received and I never would have thought someone would be calling me an inspiration. I hope to continue to inspire others to follow their dreams.

I had such a great time at the opening that I’m very excited for the next art opening that I get to participate in this Friday at the Small Works in the Foothills show! Thanks for reading everyone! I’m off to get back to working on more pieces!! I hope to see you at a show soon!
